A little About me
Hey there! And thanks for stopping by. My name is Simon and originally from a tiny island called Guernsey just off the coast of France. I got the travel bug back in 2009 when I decided to quit my job and set off on my very first solo adventure when I was just 21 years old. Destination: Bangkok, Thailand. Being very young and naive and thinking I already knew everything I needed to know about the world, I jumped on a plane and left the miserable, grey city of London for somewhere a little more exotic. Little did I know at the time my whole world and the way I perceived life was about to change forever!
I remember getting dropped off in a taxi just outside Koh San Road. The overwhelming feeling of not knowing where I was going or even what I was doing hit me in the face! The cars, the honking, the smells, the tuk-tuks and the hustle and bustle was an overload to my senses. I wasn’t used to anything like this. My life had been relatively sheltered coming from an island with just 60,000 people. I knew that I would have to quickly adapt and get used to the chaos here!
After the initial culture shock of Bangkok wore off, I soon became used to it and dare I say, even came to enjoy the chaos. I spent 3 months travelling around Thailand meeting amazing people and embracing the Thai culture with open arms.
The next few years of my twenties involved travelling and spending as much time as I could in South East Asia. I would spend the maximum amount of time there possible before my money ran out and I would have to come back home to save some more. And then repeat the cycle over and over! I was young, care free and had little responsibilities to worry about such as bills or mortgages. I had a great time and I would do it all again in a heartbeat! But something had changed. The way I saw Western culture and the way we live didn’t suit me any more and I constantly yearned for the feeling of travelling again.
So the next few years I spent doing what I thought was the ‘normal’ thing to do and try to ‘settle down’. I found a steady job, got a mortgage and knuckled down to try and climb the corporate ladder whilst taking the odd 2 week vacation every so often. But all the while having that little nagging voice telling me there was more. I should be exploring this amazing world we live on. Chasing sunsets, trying new foods and meeting people in cultures I never even knew existed. So that is exactly what I decided to do.
This next chapter of my life I will be on the road again – this time a little older and hopefully a little wiser. I will be visiting countries I have never visited before. Places where I will be pushed out of my comfort zone. Experiencing local food and drinks and spending time in some of the most beautiful and incredible places on earth!
